Trying to reduce your meeting’s carbon footprint? Host your event in a walkable city!
The association that employs me tries to host meetings in areas that are walkable. Venues such as downtown hotels that have a variety of shopping and dining within a few blocks. We also look for Convention Centers that are in urban areas, rather than outside the metro area, so that our participants have easy access to a wide array of activities after hours and so that we can eliminate the need for excess busing and taxi usage.
My hometown (Chicago) has been named the #4 most walkable city in the nation by Walk Score. Other cities in the top 10 include San Francisco, New York City, Boston and Seattle. Looks like we’ve chosen our annual meeting cities well (we’re in five of the top 10 cities over the next few years)!
